After my previous short trip to Nordic folk, I'm shifting gears back to one of my favourite styles of metal music, the world of power metal, with the latest release from Majestica, "Power Train". Majestica, fronted by the talented Tommy Johansson (known for his work with Sabaton), has carved out a niche in the symphonic and power metal scene. Their new album promises a journey filled with soaring vocals, rapid-fire drumming, and epic orchestrations – staples of the genre they inhabit. Let's see if Power Train delivers the electrifying ride fans anticipate.
The album kicks off with the title track, "Power Train", which served as the second single. It immediately immerses the listener with the sounds of a train before launching into a heavy, classic power metal assault driven by a relentless double bass pattern. The backing vocals in the chorus distinctly echo Sabaton, a comparison that surfaces multiple times throughout the record, perhaps unsurprisingly given Johansson's history. While the guitar solo is standard fare for the genre, the track serves as a powerful, thematic opener. Next up is "No Pain, No Gain", which continues the energy with a catchy chorus and a quintessential power metal intro.
